Last showing line-up and trivia!
Hey all, exams and Christmas break are coming soon and this Friday is the last day of lectures... it's also the last showing for the semester! With that said, we'll be bringing you the following for this weekend:
Digimon Adventure — Episodes 1–3
(You might have seen the dub on TV a few years back, but come and see the real thing, the way it was meant to be...)
The entire world has been suffering from strange events, including freak weather. Seven kids at summer camp are unexpectedly confronted by a blizzard and the Aurora Borealis, then suddenly transported entirely different world. Lost and alone, they are befriended by small digital monsters, fated to be their partners... As they try to find their way back home, the group soon discover a dark power corrupting even the most gentle of Digimon. The Chosen Children are drawn further and further into the mystery, the task of becoming this world's saviours thrust upon them.
Shuffle! — Episodes 1–2
When two doors are discovered in an ancient ruin, the gateways to shinkai, the realm of the shinzoku (Gods) and makai, the realm of the mazoku (Demons) are irreversibly opened. The races of human, shinzoku, and mazoku come together in the mortal world and nothing will ever be the same. One day, two new families move next door to a boy who had previously been living a very peaceful life. In one house lived the family of the King of the Gods, and in the other lived the family of the King of the Demons. Both families had one daughter whose single wish to live next to the boy they had fallen in love with years ago has just been fulfilled. Also living with the boy is his childhood friend. With these three girls vying for his affections, the boy finds that his new life filled with despair, jealousy, and just a little hope is beginning.
Samurai Pizza Cats - The Cheese who Stole Christmas
Our gift to you, we bring you more hilarious Pizza Cats with an added touch of Christmas! What more could one ask for? XD
Besides our showing, we have trivia! We'll have special prize posters for those who were paying close attention this semester! Stay tuned to the website; I'll post up a teaser of the poster once I've finished it! Be sure to stay after the showing and try your luck for a poster!

Showings for Nov. 4th~!
Hey all, it's a rare occasion that we have two separate showings in the one week, but we are indeed having a regular showing this coming Friday, November the 4th!
As per usual, we will be in EN-2006 at 7:30pm. We'll be showing a couple different things this weekend... and it'll be as follows:
Appleseed (OAV)
After World War 3 the General Management Control Office construct an experimental city known as Olympus inhabited by humans, cyborgs and bioriods. Bioriods are a genetically engineered being created to serve mankind. They run all administration of Olympus. Olympus was meant to be a utopian society. But for some it is less of a utopia and more of a cage. Calon Mautholos, an Olympus city police officer, is one of these people. Calon secretly conspires with a terrorist, A. J. Sebastian, to destroy Gaia, a super computer that runs Olympus. Out to stop them are Olympus city police SWAT team members Deunan Knute and Briareos Hecatonchires. Deunan and Briareos are determined to stop the terrorist plot by any means necessary.
The Rose of Versailles (Eps. 1-4)
Raised from birth as a man, the Lady Oscar commands the palace guards at Versailles in the years before the French Revolution. Her beauty and noble spirit make her a shining figure in the eyes of both men and women but she is torn between her chosen life of service and duty to class and country and her own heart and desires. She lives as a noble amidst the opulence of Versailles but her keen senses and compassion are not blinded to the poverty of the French people.
Also, because were unable to show the last episode at the Halloween showing, we will be showing:
Le Portrait de Petite Cosette (Part 3)
Thanks to everyone who showed up on Monday! We hope to see you Friday!

Halloween Photos!
Hi all! Great turnout tonight, I was so pleased to see so many people out for a Monday night showing! As promised, I've uploaded all the photos taken with my camera at least (sorry for those of you whom I missed getting single shots of!), and have placed them in a Photobucket album. I also put up the few I had from last year which I believe came from Holly's camera. If anyone has any other photos from this year or previous (I only saw two cameras on the go tonight) e-mail them to me at animepres@hotmail.com and I'll add them to the album.
If anyone would like their photo removed, you can also contact me. Enjoy the pics!

Summaries for Halloween Showing
Sorry about being tardy with everything (my computer died late last week and had to be ressurected). Regardless, I have plot summaries on tonight's showings:
Cossette no Shozou [Le Portrait de Petit Cossette]
Eiri works at his uncle's antique shop, and one day stumbles across a glass. Upon touching the glass, he receives visions from what he finds out to be a girl, Cossette, haunting the glass. She's been searching for over 250 years for someone who could see her, and now she needs his help.
Jigoku Shoujo [Hell Girl]
Somewhere in the vast sea of the Internet, there's a website that can only be accessed at the stroke of midnight. Known as the Jigoku Tsushin, rumor has it that if you post a grudge there, the Jigoku Shoujo will appear and drag whoever torments you into the inferno. Very little is known about the girl - all we know for sure is that she lives with her equally enigmatic grandmother, that three magical straw dolls accompany and serve her, and that whenever a posting on the Jigoku Tsushin moves her, she becomes the Jigoku Shoujo.
Remember guys, cosplay! And remember that we're in IIC-2001!

Website err0r
Some of you might have noticed that the webpage was down today and the later of last night. And, as you can see, the site looks quite a bit different. Were we working on the site and giving it a new look? No.
As I was publishing a post, the template for the website somehow became corrupted and was completely lost. So, while the site *is* back up, I have quite a bit of work for me tonight. @_@
In the meantime, check your spam box in your e-mails if you didn't recieve our e-newsletter the other day; it showed up in mine.
EDIT @ 2:50pm - Wow, that didn't take long. I managed to find a single page containing the majority of the template on my harddrive. Good as new :D

This Friday's showing
Hi all! This weekend we plan to show the Utena movie as well as the first four episodes of Outlaw Star.
Info on Utena from ANN:
In a loose retelling of the Revolutionary Girl Utena TV series, Utena Tenjou arrives at Ohtori Academy, only to be immediately swept up in a series of duels for the hand of her classmate Anthy Himemiya and the power she supposedly holds. At the same time, Utena reunites with Touga Kiryuu, a friend from her childhood who seems to know the secrets behind the duels. Utena must discover those secrets for herself, before the power that rules Ohtori claims her and her friends, new and old.
Info on Outlaw Star from ANN:
Gene Starwind and his partner Jim Hawking run a small business on the backwater planet of Centinel 3. But all that changes the day that Hilda hires them for a bodyguard job. Now, thrust into a mystery they don't fully understand, they're on the run from the cops, the pirates, an angry alien, and a mysterious assassin. But they've got one thing going in their favor - they have the galaxy's most advanced ship, the Outlaw Star.

Tape list update
Just a quick little update. The tape list will, from here on, be available in PDF format because the HTML format was just way too big (1.05MiB as opposed to 62.5KiB). If you don't have a PDF reader, just click here and download Adobe Reader, which is free.
Also, if you're wondering why certain names/dates are highlighted in different colours, the colour scheme I'm using is as follows:
GREEN - Was requested by member to be rented.
YELLOW - Is currently in the possession of a member is due back at the next showing.
RED - Overdue. Please return it
GREY - Stolen or Missing.
The tape list was updated just moments ago. Feel free to e-mail us and request a tape; that way I can get you the tape this Friday and you won't have to wait till next time.

ONEGAI✫FEST! (update)
Alright, guys, since we've met no arguments for a four-day fest, the upcoming mid-term fest will be three days long; the 7th, 8th, and 9th of October (this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). This will probably work out for the better, because we know you guys don't want to miss turkey dinner on Monday ^_~
The three-day schedule will be as follows:
All days: EN-2006 @ 7:30pm
Friday, October 7th - Onegai Teacher 1-9
Saturday, October 8th - Onegai Teacher 10-13, Onegai Twins 1-5
Sunday, October 9th - Onegai Twins 6-13
I'm going to repeat the age ratings for both of these series. Generally, Onegai Teacher is suitable for teens and older. We're putting a 14+ restriction on this; luckily, very few patrons of the society are ever this young, so it shouldn't be an issue.
As for Onegai Twins, we're putting a Mature Audience Only (17+) rating on this. There isn't any sex or extreme violence, but due to the mature scenes that are found in this series, we will be asking younger patrons who can't prove their age to leave.
Also, I finished the poster last night (er, well, 2am this morning), and that's up for you to see. Click here.

Mid-term fest!
Alright, everyone, we have tentative plans for next week's midterm fest!
This semester, we're going to be bringing you not one series, but two! Don't worry, we're not going to lock you in a room and force you to watch two incredibly long series; both are very short. ^^;;
First up, we'll be showing all 12 episodes (and a one episode special) for Onegai Teacher.
Mizuho Kazami, a beautiful young woman, went to a high school in mountainous area to teach Japanese. However, she is actually a representative from galaxy association on her mission to observe earth. Accidentally, Kei Kusanagi, one of her student, discovered her true identity. In order to keep it secret, Mizuho Kazami married Kei Kusanagi and they both live together secretly. Can they keep their marriage from Kei's classmates?
Onegai Teacher created a spin-off series, which was unrelated, but still took place in the same general world and various characters from Onegai Teacher do make appearences. We're talking about Onegai Twins
Maiku Kamishiro's past has always been somewhat of a mystery to him. The only clue he has to who is family might be is an old photograph showing two young children, a boy and a girl, playing in a small pool outside of a blue house. In an attempt to find his family, he moves to this blue house and begins working as a programmer. He's living a comfortable life until the day two very different girls show up at his door, both in possession of the same photograph, and both claiming to be his twin. With no way to prove who is a relative and who is a stranger, Maiku allows both girls to move in with him until they know for sure.
As you can probably guess, both series fall into the categories of Comedy, Drama, Romance, and Science Fiction. This series aren't H-anime or terribly innappropriate, but this series could and will be classified as Mature Audiences Only. Younger patrons will be asked to leave.
As for the showing times, that's still tentative. As the plan goes now, we're showing them all in three days. We have EN-2006 booked for five days of mid-term break, however we've seen that many people don't really wish to spend that many days watching endless amounts of anime. Sure, there are plenty of hardcore fans out there ^_~ But we think we'll give you a break.
Basically, the format would be nine episodes for two nights, and eight on the third. Alternatively, we could split the series evenly; showing six on night one, seven on night two, six on night three, and seven on night four.
Again, four nights might be stretching it for some of you, so please, if you have a preference, let us know! Either leave a comment below or e-mail me!
Final details will be released very soon.

Poster and Tape List up!
The new, updated, and improved tape list is up. There's been a lot added and you can find it on the mainpage sidebar. Since we have a growing digital collection, I've posted links to popular codecs that are required many of the CD/DVD-Rs on the list. DivX and XviD are, by far, the most widely-used. The third is a collection of any codec you might need, including DivX and XviD. I posted separate links for DivX and XviD because their more likely to be up-to-date.
As well, I finished the poster and uploaded it in PDF and JPG formats, which you can also find to on the sidebar.
I also have the design for the membership cards finished. Expect to see them this Friday! ^_^

New: Atom Feed!
For anyone familiar with RSS or Atom feeds, this page now sports just that. If you're using Firefox, you can add this site as a "Live Bookmark", and get updates as soon as they happen! Internet Explorer 7 is supposed to support feeds, but I know a lot of you guys use Firefox anyways. All you need to do is click the little orange Live Bookmark button on the bottom of the window and click "Subscribe to St. John's Anime Film Society". If you add it to your Bookmark Toolbar, it'll look something quite like this.

Retro/Nostalgia Night!
Well, because of how this semester at MUN is set up, the only easy way to schedule all the showings properly is to either start on the very first week... or the third. And because starting on the third week would totally suck, we've decided to get a fresh and early start, starting with this coming Friday, September 9th. Of course, since the semester has yet to start up, I've yet to hear back from our room-booking correspondent. I submitted a request for EN-2006 a few days back, so as long as there are no issues, the showing will go ahead at the usual 7:30pm in EN-2006. IMPORTANT: Remember to check the website before you head out, in case this changes at the last minute! Of course, if I get confirmation back in the next couple of days, I'll send an e-mail anyways.
Also, on the 8th, is MUN's annual club fair, and this year the Anime Society will be there~! Of course, you all know we exist, but there are plenty of people out there, especially new students, that don't, so we'll be there to spread the word! Drop by and say hello ^_^
Oh, and I'm sure you people are probably wondering... just what are we showing this Friday? Well, we're going to kick off the new semester with something a little different... Some old, retro anime that's sure to be familiar to you. Maybe it was something you saw on TV as a child... perhaps it was the first anime you ever saw. Well, we've got some (original) Transformers, 1980's Astroboy, and even some Samurai Pizza Cats coming at you! Yes, you read right. We're going to try and find some more stuff from around that era, but as you might suspect, it's pretty hard to find. If you happen to have
some (good quality) tapes or DVDs of some late ‘80s/early ‘90s anime lying around, bring it in! This should prove to be a good night of laughs and nostalgia~!
Hope to see you there!
Last showing of the semester!
Well, I finally got around to lining up a showing schedule for this Friday~! (August 5th)
It's a variety of sorts this week, starting with crazy-comedy, add in a little new fantasy/comedy, and finish off with some serious drama.
The line-up:
Kingyo Chuuihou! ~ Goldfish Warning! (Episodes 1 & 2) [All Ages]
The show starts with the tale of Chitose Fujinomiya, a girl who goes from riches to rags and back and remains a snob despite it all. When her wealthy father dies, remaining debts leave Chitose almost broke, and she is kicked out of the affluent Tokai no Gakuen, or City Academy. She is left with nothing in the world but the clothes on her back and one pink goldfish named Gyopi-chan, the only memento she has of her father. Wandering lost, she collapses on the grounds of the poor-but-happy Inaka no Chugakko (Country Jr. High School), where the students are rough if friendly, and farm animals regularly roam the school grounds and even attend class. Recovering, she enters into the school but is repelled by its air of poverty, to which she is unaccustomed.
Mahou Sensei Negima ~ Magic Teacher Negima (Episodes 1 & 2)
[From the creator of Love Hina!] [All Ages]
Negi Springfield is only 10 years old, but he graduated first on the list from a magical school in the United Kingdom. To become a great wizard (Magister Magi), he was sent to Mahora Academy in Japan for training. The principal of the school was a friend of his grand father. He was assigned a homeroom teacher of the 8th grade class, but, to his surprise, all the students of the class were girls. They were very characteristic girls, for example, an active girl who liked study, a shy girl who was always reading books, moreover, a robots and a vampire. Being surrounded by the girls, he would lead a troublesome life.
Monster (Episodes 1-4) [Rated 14+]
Kenzou Tenma, a Japanese brain surgeon in Germany, had it all: incredible skill at his work, a rich and beautiful fiancee, and a promising career at his hospital. However, after becoming disenchanted by hospital politics, he chose to save the life of a young boy who got shot in the head over the life of the mayor. As a result he lost the support of the hospital director, as well as his position in the hospital and his fiance. A short time later, the hospital director and the doctors that replaced him were murdered, and once again he was catapulted back onto the top. But as the chief suspect of the murders, Tenma did not get a easy life. As a matter of fact, it seems that the boy he saved was much more than he had appeared to be... Now to clear his name and to correct his past mistake, Tenma must get to the bottom of these and other murders, and investigate the truth of the Monster who is behind all of this.
As usual, we're in EN-2006 at 7:30pm! Hope to see you there!
EDIT: Sorry about the confusion... the correct description of Monster is now listed above

Lodoss and Full Moon
With only two more showings left in the summer semester, anime is bringing you a night of fantasy!
Many veteran otaku know and remember the Record of Lodoss War; we had it in our tape library on VHS, but it was... well, stolen in 2000. However, we now have DVD-quality digital copies of both the OVA and TV series, and so we'll be showing the first four episodes of the OVA.
A long time ago, there was a tremendous war between the goddess of Creation and the goddess of Destruction, which made the earth trembled. Both goddesses perished in the war and created what people called a cursed land - Lodoss. Something evil is happening in the land of Lodoss. Parn, a reckless young warrior, along with his newfound friends, takes on a quest to find out the source of this evil and becomes involved in the greatest epic struggle between good and evil since the war of the goddesses.
Also, we'll be showing four episodes of Full Moon o Sagashite (lit: Searching for the Full Moon).
The story focuses on 12-years old Mitsuki who loves to sing and wants to become a singer. However she has a tumour on her throat, which might only be cured at the cost of her voice. Her time is running out because she has only one year before she loses her voice.
As per usual, Anime starts at 7:30pm in EN-2006. Hope to see you there!

Line-up for this Friday!
Hey all, you'll all be able to get your Anime fix this Friday!
This Friday, we'll be bringing you the OVAs Tokyo Babylon and Tokyo Babylon 2 (Each a one-hour OVA).
Tokyo Babylon is one of CLAMP's earlier works, and could be considered a prequel to X, following the life and back story of Subaru Sumeragi.
Subaru Sumeragi is the 13th head of the Sumeragi Clan and a most powerful onmyouji. Subaru is hired to exorcise a construction sight, but his employer mysteriously died. The only suspect is a man who repeatedly walks away from situations in which he should have died. Then Subaru meets a young women intent upon cursing the man, saying that he killed her brother. Subaru must figure out how his employer died and fight the evil spirits that are protecting the man with the help of his friend and twin sister, Seishirou Sakurazuka and Hokuto Sumeragi.
Also, we'll be showing the first three episodes of Kyou Kara Maou! (Translation: Maou From Now On!). A comedic anime, the story goes something like this:
Yuri Shibuya was living a pretty normal life. That changed the day he was dunked into a toilet after an attempt to save a classmate from a gang of bullies. Instead of just getting a good soaking, he's pulled in. The next thing he knows, he's in a world that vaguely resembles medieval Europe. If that's not odd enough, he's told that he is to be the next Maou, just because he has black hair and black eyes. The Maou is the King of the Mazoku, who are coexisting not-so-peacefully with the humans in this world. Much to his subject's dismay, he's totally different from the rulers they're accustomed to. He's kind, considerate, a believer in justice, and not willing to use violence to solve conflicts. Not exactly someone they want running a country on the very brink of war. Now, Yuri has to deal with trying to become a good Maou, while at the same time attempting to adapt to this land's customs and culture, all in a world where the tension between the humans and Mazoku is reaching its peak.
As well, we've shown up to episode 49 of Detective Conan now, so this Friday we'll be bringing you episode 50!

Next Showing
Thanks to all who showed up for our X Fest! It was a great success and I'm glad you all enjoyed it!
A reminder to everyone that our next showing will be July 8th, not the 1st. Obviously the first is Canada Day and thusly, we opted to move Anime to the following week. This conviniently places our last showing of the semester on the last day of lectures for this semester.

For those of you who weren't at our last showing, we announced the series of choice for this semester's midterm fest:
X TV
X TV is the CLAMP anime based off the popular X/1999 manga series and runs 24 episodes long. Midterm break runs from June 17-20th, so that's 6 episodes each night~
For those of you unfamiliar with the X series, here's a brief summary:
At the millennial edge, the concluding battle for humanity's future is staged. Kamui Shirou's destiny has been decided as he returns to Tokyo to face his ultimate challenge. The Dragon of Heaven, defenders of the Earth, stand ready to protect the world from the Dragon of Earth, the seven angles of legend, who embrace the devastation of the planet to bring about its purification. Now Kamui must decide which side to fight for although he finds the idea utterly unappealing. It isn't until realizing that his two childhood friends, Fuma and Kotori Monou, are in grievous peril that Kamui decides to step into his fated position in the climactic struggle of the Year of Destiny: 1999.
Basically, the world's been fated to end in 1999 and stuff goes down.
Hope to see you there!

Like I said, GTO and Noir are a little more mature, so I'd give this showing a rating of 13+.

Spring Semester Dates!
Hey all! Our first showing of the semester is coming your way, one week from today, on Friday, May 20th!
Ashley's gone to Toronto for the summer (Ganbaru!) so, it'll be Erin, Mae, and myself ^_^
For future references, here are the dates for this semester's showings:
May 20 - EN-2006
June 3 - EN-2006
June 17, 18, 19, 20 (Midterm fest) - EN-2006 for 17-19; SN-2109 for the 20th.
July 8 (this avoids having a showing on Canada Day, and conveniently places our last showing on the last day of class) - EN-2006
July 22 - EN-2006
August 5 - EN-2006
As of current, we haven't planned out any particular shows we're going to show; nor have we finalized what we're showing for the midterm fest. Suggestions are, of course, always welcome! We wanna show what you wanna see, so click the little "Comment" link!
As you can see, we were lucky and managed to get EN-2006 for all dates except the 20th of June. This makes things a little complicated for the last day of the fest, but it shouldn't be too bad. Mr. Mallard informed me that EN-2006 is being upgraded (futher) from May 20-22nd, so we've got no choice.
I'll send out an e-mail notice once we confirm shows for May 20th!

Current Poster
I finally finished this week's poster... and I still have to make one for Friday as well @_@
I tried to get it printed and posted around MUN tonight, but alas, the printer at Staples was broken... Just as well, because after I came back home, I tweaked and fixed parts of the poster and I'm only now finished... With the weather expected tomorrow, the posters will likely be up around Thursday morning...
I hope you like it! The PDF format is really, really big, so you might want to just view the JPEG version.
See you Friday!

アニメ協会の春の祭!
Our next and last showing of the semester is coming up on April the 1st! No joke. :P
Unlike the normal, run-of-the-mill showing, we'll be shaking things up a bit >:D
We haven't, as of yet, decided on what we'll be showing, but we will be having a PARTY~!
We'll show one thing, probably a movie... but besides that, the night's event will involve:
Karaoke - Bring in MP3s [on CD or a USB flash drive - no floppies] or CDs of you favourite anime or other Japanese music, and sing it out! If you have a karaoke version, awesome, but if a karaoke version wasn't released, the original is fine.
Cosplay - Who cares if it's not Halloween?! We sure as heck don't! Dress up as your favourite character!
Food - We'll be bringing along some sushi, but if you have any culinary skills in Japanese food, any kind at all, bring some in!
Trivia - As per usual, we'll test your skills and see just how much you paid attention over the course of the semester... and yes, the questions will be delightfully evil >:D But, if you're good enough, you'll get a pretty 11x17 poster! (Same size as the ones I've been making and hanging around for showings)
Of course, stuff is still in planning, so certain things may be changed. I'll send out the e-mail soon, once things are solidified... Just thought I'd give an early message out to those who are checking up on the site~!
Hope to see you there!

Moving already?! XD
Well, a friend of mine has an account with a professional dedicated webserver, and a few free domains, so he offered to host the site! Nothing wrong with what I have, but a professional, high-speed server is too sexy to pass up.
The new address is http://www.mun-anime.com ^_^ (should be working tomorrow)
Thanks so much, Cyber!!
