Hey all, there's a showing on Friday, A-1046, 7:30, the usual. Rated 14+.
Metropolis
Kenichi and his detective uncle, Shunsaku Ban, leave Japan to visit Metropolis, in search of the criminal, Dr. Laughton. However, when they finally find Dr. Laughton, Kenichi and Shunsaku find themselves seperated and plunged into the middle of a larger conspiracy. While Shunsaku searches for his nephew and explanations, Kenichi tries to protect Tima (a mysterious young girl), from Duke Red and his adopted son Rock, both of whom have very different reasons for wanting to find her.
TRIVIA!!!
To keep things short, we're leaving things at the movie. Instead of more anime, we'll find out if you've been paying attention this semester with our Trivia Contest! Members only will be eligible to participate - memberships will be avaliable for $5, should you wish to participate. Prizes are a collaged poster of our showings for Member Trivia, and some surprise treats for Executive Trivia, where we take the hot seat and you ask the questions! So try to think of something that will stump us!
We hope to see you there!

Member's Choice Night!
So, thanks to Sheldon and Charles, the winners of our "Member's Choice" Draw! It appears that we'll be having an interesting night this Friday, November 16th. As usual, A-1046 at 7:30.
WORLD PREMIERE MOVIE SCREENING AT 7:00! Streets of Rage, Directed by our own Michael Williams, and Starring Executive member Matthew Follett, will screen at 7:00, running approximately 30 minutes.
In order to repay an old debt of gratitude, Xiao Pai Long, the last modern decedent of an ancient order of warriors, must rescue the daughter of the man who once saved his life. Between him and the girl’s safety are Xiao Pai Long’s old enemies, The Vicious Four. Faced with the ultimate battle of Titans, Xiao Pai Long must match unbridled evil and brawn with the only weapon he has, the super human powers endowed to him by the mystical garments of Oni.
Following the screening, your regularly scheduled anime will resume, at the usual time.
Cat Soup (Charles' Choice A)
When little kitten Nyaako's soul is stolen by Death, she and her brother Nyatta embark on a bizarre journey to get it back. In the
surreal dreamscape of the Other Side, they encounter many fantastic characters and remarkable, often disturbing adventures. From a hallucinatory sea voyage to a rambunctious carnival, the two kittens travel far from home and discover just how strange and miraculous the world can be.
Serial Experiments Lain (Charles' Choice B)
We‘re all Connected...
There is the world around us, a world of people, tactile sensation, and culture. There is the wired world, inside the computer, of images, personalities, virtual experiences, and a culture all of its own. The day after a classmate commits suicide, Lain Iwakura, a thirteen year-old girl, discovers how closely the two worlds are linked when she receives an e-mail from the dead girl:
"I just abandoned my body. I still live here..."
Has the line between the real world and the wired world begun to blur?
Bleach (Sheldon's Choice)
Kurosaki Ichigo is a 15 year old student, with the ability to see ghosts. His life was forever changed when he met Kuchiki Rukia, a Shinigami (Death God), who is charged with sending lost souls to the afterlife, known as Soul Society. While saving Ichigo and his famil from the attack of a malevolent ghost known as a Hollow, Rukia sustains serious injuries. Unable to finish the battle, she offers to share her powers, and responsibilities, with Ichigo, thereby giving him the ability to save his family.
Due to mature subject matter and scenes of nudity, this showing is rated 16+.

Halloween Showing!
Hey Everyone!
It's that time of year again...Halloween! In honor of the event, we'll be having a Halloween-themed night this Friday (November 2nd), from 7:30 on in A-1046. So, this means scary anime, costumes, and maybe even some candy! We'll also be drawing for our Member's Choice Showing Night, which is November 16th. Coming in costume will earn you an extra chance! (There will also be a costume contest, so you might want to come as something. Yourself is not considered to be a costume.)
We're screening...
The Cowboy Bebop Movie: Knockin' on Heaven's Door
As the Cowboy Bebop crew travels the stars, they learn of the largest bounty yet offered, 300 million oolong. Apparently, someone is wielding an incredibly powerful chemical weapon, and the authorities are at a loss to stop it. The war to take down the most dangerous criminal yet forces the crew to face a true madman, with bare hope to succeed.
Elfen Lied
The Diclonius are mutated homo sapiens, said to be selected by God to eventually become the destruction of mankind. They possess two horns in their heads, and have a "sixth sense" which gives telekinetic abilities. Due to this dangerous power, they have been captured and isolated in laboratories by the government. Lucy, a young and psychotic Diclonius, manages to break free of her confines and brutally murders most of the guards in the laboratory, only to get shot in the head as she makes her escape. She survives and drifts along to a beach, where two teenagers, Kouta and Yuka, discover her. Having lost her memories, they named her after the only thing that she can now say - "Nyuu" - and the two allow her to stay at Kouta's home. However, it appears that the evil "Lucy" is not dead just yet...
REMINDERS: We need new Executive members. Please come forward and e-mail us with why you'd like to join us.
Having not yet made a decision on a new logo, we are still accepting designs.
This showing is rated 16+, for violence and mature subject matter.
We hope to see you there (in costume)!

Midterm Fest!
As this weekend is Midterm Break, we're having Midterm Fest! For those of you that are new to us, this means not one night of anime, but two! (or sometimes three) Along with our extra night of anime, we limit what we view to a single series - the entire series.
This Friday and Saturday, October 5th and 6th, we're showing The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya , at 7:30 in A-1046. As the series is 14 episodes long, we'll be breaking it into two nights of 7 episodes.
On the first day of high school a beautiful girl named Haruhi Suzumiya introduces herself as having "no interest in ordinary humans". She asks for any aliens, time travelers, sliders or espers to join her. Watching her weird behaviour is Kyon, the person who sits in front of Haruhi and the only person who talks to her. When Kyon comments about Haruhi's joining every club in school and then quitting he unwittingly gives Haruhi an idea to start her own after school club. Thereafter, Kyon and several others find themselves dragged, literally, into the Save our world by Overloading it with fun Suzumiya Haruhi's Brigade (the S.O.S. Brigade).
Please note that this showing is rated 16+.

Anime on Friday!
So, contrary to the posters which you've probably seen on campus, were not going back in time and changing what we showed last week. ^^; I just forgot to change the date.
What's really going on is this - there will be a full showing this Friday, September 21st at 7:30 pm, with an open meeting at 7:00.
We'll be showing....
Dragon Half
Mink - the daughter of a dragon and a retired dragon slaying knight - sets out to get tickets for a concert being held by Dick Saucer, world-famous teen idol and Dragon-slayer. Meanwhile, the corrupt king of the land is trying to take her hostage to get at her mother, and his magic-using daughter seeks to foil Mink's quest out of sheer spite.
Romeo X Juliet A Re-Imagining of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet
This is a story of a young and tragic love, set in the aerial city of Neo Verona. Tyranny rules this island in the sky, since the Montague family took control fourteen years ago. The disparity among the wealthy and the poor is apparent, as the earth dries and water stagnates. The sky itself is wrapped in a dense fog. Romeo is the son of the current Montague dictator, while Juliet masquerades as a man (Odin), to hide her lineage as the last descendant of the Capulet family - the previous rulers who were killed by an assassin's dagger fourteen years ago. The cruel hands of fate introduce these two people, who will become "Star-Crossed Lovers."
We hope to see you there! Remember, for every showing you attend until our third-last this semester, your name goes in our "Showing Raffle" - come and get a chance to be the boss! (Also known as pick half a showing.) Please note that this is members only! Don't forget to bring your card!

Last Showing for the Summer!
So, as the semeter winds to an end, so does the Society. This Friday is our last showing of the semester, and we'll be in our usual SN-2109 at 7:30.
What're we showing? Good question. In reality, we're not so sure either! This week we're hauling a pair of tapes out of our library and popping them in the player! (No, we're not doing what we did Fall '06 and bringing part of the library, just two tapes.) So come tomorrow night and find out what we're playing! Nobody will know until then!
To be safe, tomorrow night will be rated 14+.
If you can't come, we look forward to seeing you in the fall! Check your e-mails during the first week of classes for news regarding the semester's activites!

<.< So yeah...
Um, hi! There's anime tonight. At 7:30, in room SN-2109.
We're showing Galaxy Railways and Aquarion. Four eps. and four eps.
Galaxy Railways
Carrying on his deceased father and brother's will, Manabu Yuuki joins the Space Defense Force to protect the safety of the Galaxy Railways. Manabu faces many challenges as he rises from the ranks of the SDF, dealing with accidents, natural disasters, rescue operations and space pirates along all lines of the railway. The fleet of the Galaxy Railways transports countless galactic citizens from one exotic planet to the next, protected by the SDF, the elite force protecting the Railways Fleet against terrorists, meteor storms, and malicious alien life. These are the stories of those that travel the Galaxy Railways system and the people that are sworn to protect it. No one knows these stories better than Layla Destiny Shura, the leader of the system with the uncanny ability to see the fates of all those who travel on the Galaxy Railways.
Aquarion
In a distant future, humanity once again is facing the threat of the "Shadow Angels". Mystical creatures who returned after 12.000 years of absence. They attack human cities and kidnap their inhabitants in order to drain their "prana" (vital energy). To fight against them, youngsters with special powers from arround the world were gathered and trained to pilot the "vector machines", three ancient ships that together form mankind's ultimate weapon, "Aquarion". The story revolves mainly arround Apollo, a teenager rumored as the reencarnation of Apolonius, a fallen angel who fought against his own kind to protect mankind. Few believe it could be true, but the fact is that dispite his untamed and reckless nature, he proved to be an invaluable asset in the battle against the Shadow Angels.
Age ratings are availiable through the e-mail which you should get later today. Sorry for the late notice!!! (Life overtook us this week!)

Anime Tomorrow!
^^; Opps. I meant to do this yesterday! So my apologies for the late notice.
Now, on with the details. This Friday, June 29th, we will be having a showing in the Science Building at MUN, room SN-2109 (the big lecture theater located in the corner closest to the Arts Atrium.) We will be starting at 7:30pm, and will run until approximately 10:30 or 11pm, breaking around 9pm for 15-20 minutes. (Following our usual approach, we'll watch four episodes and four episodes.)
This week we'll be watching...(with subtitles, as usual)
Cluster Edge (Recommended for ages 13+, warnings of mild language, bloodless violence [use of guns, explosions, and swords], and potentially frightening scenes)
Agate Fluorite is the new transfer student at the elite school, "Cluster E.A.", in which the sons of many prestigious families from different countries gather to study together. Soon after his enrollment, Agate's unexpected antics and enthusiasm impress many of his schoolmates, including Beryl Jasper, an honors student who is bored with his current way of life. However, unknown to Agate, he was born with a secret power that can create miracles, allowing him to accomplish incredible feats.
and Uta~Kata (Recommended for ages 14+, warnings of mature subject matter and mildly frightening scenes)
On the last day of the school year, 14 year-old Ichika Tachibana comes across an old, cracked mirror in an unused campus building. When Manatsu, a mysterious girl from inside the mirror, steps out and offers her friendship for the summer, she also offers Ichika magical powers. Now, Manatsu must help Ichika unlock the powers of the 12 Djinn in order to complete her magic training... but perhaps this is something that will prove too difficult a task. Some offers may appear too be good to be true and this one just may turn out to do more harm than good.
A NOTE TO ALL PARENTS - WE TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ACTIONS OR CARE OF YOUR CHILDREN. SHOULD YOUR CHILDREN ATTEND, WE ASK THAT THEY BE SUPERVISED AS NECESSARY. Also, we recommend that young children who may become tired leave during the break, so as not to disrupt the viewing of our second half. Further, these series are presented in the original Japanese language with subtitles. While most members do not speak Japanese fluently, we do attempt to listen to the dialog, and therefore encourage everyone to be quiet and not comment when the episode is running. Please ensure that your child understands these rules before attending - should your child misbehave, act disruptively, or endanger others, they will asked to leave the showing. As we are a MUN club, we maintain a mature, relaxed atmosphere, which we request that your children respect.
Also, should you desire more information about the specific details which have led to our warnings and suggested ages, the information is available on request, by e-mailing info@mun-anime.com or munanime@gmail.com.

MidtermFest!
Hey everyone, this weekend is Midterm Break! And you know what that means....
An entire series over three nights! Each night we'll start at 7:30 in SN-2109, showing 9 episodes on Friday the 16th and Saturday the 17th, and 8 on the 18th (Sunday).
This semester's anime of choice is Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto. (If you can pronounce that, color me impressed.)
" The Shogunate is in its final years, and war is fast approaching. When Akizuki Yojiro, a dark and mysterious mercenary, nears something supernatural with some kind of importance to him, the ornament on the end of his sword hilt waves in its direction, his eyes glow mysteriously, and he is driven to go after it. He comes across a traveling theater group who is out for revenge for killing the parents of the group's leader, and whose mysterious playwright likes to secretly help along events of history. Yojiro joins them lending them his skill against their enemies, while dark conspiracy continues to follow behind him."
See you all on Friday!

Another week of Anime!
So, we're back again this week, June 1st. We'll be in SN-2109 once again, starting at our usual 7:30.
And we're showing...
Lovely Complex
Touch
The story centers around three characters - Uesugi Kazuya, his twin older brother Tatsuya, and Asakura Minami. Kazuya is the darling of his town as he’s talented, hardworking, and the ace pitcher for his middle school baseball team. Tatsuya is a hopeless slacker who’s been living the life of giving up the spotlight to Kazuya, despite the fact that he may be more gifted than him. Minami is the beautiful childhood girlfriend and for all intents, sister from next door who treats both of them as equals. Society largely assumes Kazuya and Minami will become the perfect couple, including Tatsuya. Yet as time progresses, Tatsuya grows to realize that he’s willing to sacrifice anything for the sake of his brother, except at the expense of giving up Minami to Kazuya. And thus the story is told of Tatsuya trying to prove himself over his established younger brother, how it affects the relationship between the three, and both brothers' attempts to make Minami's lifelong dreams come true.
Hope to see you there!
And we're showing...
Lovely Complex
One day, a very tall transfer student shows up and Risa immediately falls for him, as she has had bad luck with boys in the past because she is tall. There is a girl that Otani likes as well, so Risa and Otani decide to put aside their differences and help each other get their love interests. But as they get to know each other better, Risa's feelings for Otani begin to blossom.
Risa Koizumi has always been taller than most people, and Atsushi Ootani has always been shorter than most boys. Risa, after being caught during one of the school assembles, is punished by attending summer classes. Risa learns that she attends summer class with Ootani. After a cute, tall guy transfers into their summer class, the two of them decide to help each other out in regards to a possible love interest. Ootani helps Risa get close to the new classmate, Suzuki, and Risa helps Ootani get close to one of her close friends Chiharu. It turns out that Suzuki and Chiharu have more in common than vice versa with Ootani and Risa and they decide to give up and let Chiharu and Suzuki become a couple. However, Risa begins to notice that her feelings for Ootani are growing, but Ootani doesn't seem to notice at. Risa must get Ootani to understand that it's him she likes, not some other guy, and then figure out if a relationship between a tall girl and a short boy can really be possible.

Spring Festival !!!
Well, our last showing for the semester is coming up next Friday, March 30th (yes, we really ARE letting you know a week in advance!!), and we're celebrating the ending of winter with our 3rd-annual Spring Festival~!
First and foremost, we'll be in our regular spot at the regular time - A-1046 @ 7:30pm
Like last year, we'll have a few special things going on, on top of our regular showing~
COSPLAY
Got an anime costume sitting around or itching to be made? Put it on and show it off! Cosplay is always welcome, but especially for Spring Festival! (Who knows, if we have enough people in costume, maybe somebody will get a prize for the best one!)
KARAOKE
We love karaoke and we know you guys do too, so we're giving you the chance to sing your heart out to your favourite anime and j-pop/rock tunes! You can bring in your own music on CD, iPod, or Flash Drive, or e-mail us your song (10MiB or under, or a link to a reputable download) and we'll look after it. If you're bringing in your music, please bring along lyrics as well, so that we can all sing along together! Please do this as soon as possible, so that we can spend more time singing and less time finding the words to what we want to sing.
TRIVIA
So, how much were YOU paying attention this semester? We'll test your know-how and find out! As well, you can test us, and see how well WE were paying attention! Check out what we've shown over the semester, watch it again, and bring in your own questions, to see how well we do! Also, please remember that to participate in either form of Trivia this semester, we do require you to purchase a membership. They cost $5, and while we will have change, it will be in limited amounts - please, if possible, load us up with your five dollar bills, twoonies and loonies, so that we don't have to give you change!! Buy a membership, get a cool card, maybe one of ten trivia posters, and the knowledge that you're supporting your local anime society, allowing us to do bigger and better things!
And MORE!!!
Hey,this is for you guys! If you want to add to the party, feel free! Food and drinks are always welcome! (No alcohol permitted) We'll also have some food for you guys, so come and enjoy!
OH, AND THE ANIME...
Let's not forget we have some anime to show you guys! In a nostalgic turn of events, we're going back to the 70s and bringing you Space Captain Harlock!!! And to remind us all of how much we don't enjoy dubbing, we're bringing you BAD American Dubbing.
Space Pirate Captain Harlock
The year is 2977. Mankind has become complacent and stagnant. All work is done by machines, while humans spend all their time on entertainment. But when a mysterious invader from the stars catches Earth unawares, only the legendary space pirate Captain Harlock and the crew of the Arcadia have the will to stand against them.
BAD American Dubbing
"The story you are about to see is true. Japanese cartoons, revered the world over, have been grotesquely mutated by fat Yankee pig producers, with the sole purpose of making a buck, regardless of the personal and/or artistic cost. This is the story of those Japanese cartoons. This is the story of...BAD AMERICAN DUBBING!" This short film showcases low-standard dubbing, featuring scenes from the very worst dubs you've seen, and very likely some of the worst dubs you are glad you never did see!
So everyone, we hope you'll be there! Come and celebrate the fact that we can see the grass, even if it is brown!

March 16th Showing~
Hi all! We're hoping to see you all in A-1046 this Friday at 7:30 for our second-last showing of the semester. Don't forget that the Spring Festival will be taking place at the showing after that, where we'll finish off the winter blues with a fun night of karaoke, Japanese food, trivia, cosplay and Bad American Dubbing (oh no!). Don't forget to keep an eye out for good trivia to ask us, this time around!
On this week's schedule:
Yu-Gi-Oh! "Season 0"
Game loving Mutou Yugi was given an ancient relic by his grandfather called the Sennen (Thousand-Year) Puzzle. He completed the puzzle and was possessed by the spirit of an ancient Pharaoh. The Pharaoh has no memories of who he is or how he got in the puzzle to begin with. The Pharaoh looks out for Yugi and his friends and Yugi agrees to help the Pharaoh recover his lost memory and help him be put to rest so he can go on to the afterlife and finally leave Yugi's body.
.REC
Fumihiko Matsumaru is an average salaryman with no girlfriend. He invited his colleague, Miss Tanaka, to a movie but was stood up. Right at the time he was about to toss tickets into a trash can, a cute girl appeared and asked him not to waste those two tickets. After movie and dinner, he escorted her home and found they live in the same neighborhood, yet unfortunately her apartment caught on fire hours later. Having nowhere else to stay, rookie seiyuu Aka Onda moved to Matsumaru's place, and the two had started a "more than friends but not yet lovers" relationship under the same roof while keeping this secret from their employers.

Friday, March 2nd
Hey everybody!
Once again, anime is this Friday, March 2nd. As usual we'll be in A-1046 at 7:30pm. This week we're bringing you a Sci-Fi night, because we all need some big guns, even bigger robots, and crazy technical talk once in a while.
HOWEVER - THIS SHOWING IS SUITABLE FOR AUDIENCES 17+. YOUNGER VIEWERS WILL BE TURNED AWAY. This is due to fairly large quantities of blood and gore. Anyone who is uncomfortable with this is also recommended to skip this week's showing.
Baldr Force EXE Resolution
Tooru Soma was a member of "Steppen Wolf", a group of hackers. The group decided to do one more hacking attack by attempting to hack into FLAK, a major military organization run by the United Nations to prevent cyber terrorism. However, they were discovered quickly, which resulted in the death of Yuuya, Steppen Wolf's leader and Tooru's friend, as well as their arrest. In order to avoid a long term in prison, Tooru ultimately decided to join FLAK, in order to find out who killed Yuuya. While Tooru tries to find the murderer of his friend, he and his new teammates are to defend the wired world from Fei Dao, an extremist group who threatens to disrupt the stability of the wired world.
Deus Machina Demonbande (TV)
Kuro Daijuuji is a poor detective living in Arkham City. One day, he was requested by Ruri Hado of Hado Financial Group, to search for a magic book. While he initially refused, Ruri offered him a large sum of money upon completion of her request, in which bribed Kuro to accept. As Kuro searches for the book, he unexpectedly runs into Al, a pretty girl that is actually a powerful grimoire. They forge a contract with each other, bestowing Kuro with powerful magic. Soon afterwards, Al also activates Demonbane, a deus machina owned by the Hado Financial Group, to combat the mechanical menace from the Black Lodge. With this, the war between the Hado Financial Group and the Black Lodge begins....

Midterm Fest, oh yes!
It's that time of year again! Hoping to see you all tomorrow (FRIDAY) at 7:30 for the first night of our fest, which is Ouran High School Host Club. It's a 26-episode comedy, and I edited the website version of the summary so it spoils the first episode less than the e-mail did, so have a read below if you're so inclined. XD
The schedule:
Friday, Feb. 16th - Eps. 1-9.
Saturday, Feb. 17th - Eps. 10-18.
Sunday, Feb. 18th - Eps. 19-26.
In A-1047, which as most of you know is in the Arts Atrium. Hope to see you there!
Ouran High School Host Club
Haruhi is a poor student at a school for the ultra-wealthy, able to attend because of a scholarship, and unable to even afford a uniform. One day, after stumbling across the decidedly peculiar but very popular Ouran Host Club, Haruhi breaks a vase and, unable to pay for it, ends up in a strange servitude to the Club, who exist to entertain affluent schoolgirls with too much time on their hands. Haruhi, being average almost to a fault, doesn't know what to make of the unconventional activities of the Host Club (or of the even more unconventional members), but having little choice, must play along.

Groundhog Day showing!
Seeing how we're in Newfoundland, we've undoubtedly got a long winter left.
In any case, there's a showing tonight, once again in A-1046 and we'll be starting at 7:30!
In an attempt to lighten the mood set by last week's angstfest...
Kyatto Ninden Tyandee
In the town of Edoropolis, Koon no Kami is making all sorts of trouble with his plots totake over the city, and only the Himitsu Ninja Tai Nyanki (Secret Ninja Team Nyanki), a team made up of Pururun Nyan, Yattaro, and Sukashii can stop him, while trying to run their pizza shop too! One of the earliest anime to be imported from Japan, you might know this series as Samurai Pizza Cats. Come see the original version, where the Big Cheese is a fox, and our "samurai" are really ninja!
Zero no Tsukaima
Meet Louise, a budding magician. The students at the Tristein Academy call her "Zero Louise", due to her current record of zero successes with magic. In fact, her magic tends to go spectacularly wrong. Now, as an important test of her aptitude for magic, she must summon a familiar to be her servant. At this critical moment, she summons up all her magic and wishes for a familiar that is "devoted, beautiful and powerful", and gets... Hiraga Saito, an ordinary Japanese boy. It's difficult to say who is more surprised and dismayed, but the rules don't allow for second attempts. Louise is stuck with her strange familiar, and he with her.

They are the Kirihara brothers, who lived in a labatory within a barrier-protected forest. They have escaped from the labatory, and a new wave of 'Revolution' is about to arise... A new "Night Head" is about to awaken.
Hope to see you all there!!

First Showing - Jan 19.
Just a heads-up that although the showing content hasn't been decided yet, it will take place this Friday, January 19th at 7:30 (we're encouraging you to show up at 7, though, for a quick meeting, some announcements, suggestions, etc) in A-1046. That's in the Arts building and will likely be our home for the entire Winter semester, if not permanently. Please drop us an email if you have comments or questions, and I'll update the site soon with the showing titles.
