Hey everyone!
Sorry to do this to all of you, but we're delaying the tape library sale until next week. The condition of the tapes is a bit questionable, given their age, so we're going to play it safe and keep them dry. We promise they'll be there next week though, still $1 each!
Hopefully you'll all forgive us!

New Semester of Anime!
Hello all you lovely people,
It's that time again: the start of a new semester, which means it's time for more anime! We have quite a lengthy list of announcements this time around so please bear with me.
Secondly, we are once again looking for a new exec member! If you think you've got what it takes (it's grueling, I assure you) drop us a line at this address telling us why you'd like to be on the exec and what you think you can bring to it. The application period ends promptly at 5:00pm on October 9th and we hope to announce the new exec that evening so get your applications in pronto!
And, finally, we are once again starting showings this semester. Our first showing is on September 18 at 7:30pm in A-1046 (room may be subject to change but we'll let you know). As some of you know, our first showing of the semester is a Meet & Greet type affair so we'll only be showing one anime. And we're showing classic director Hayao Miyazaki's latest film:
Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea
A young boy, Sōsuke, befriends a strange looking goldfish whom he names Ponyo. Unbeknownst to Sōsuke, Ponyo is a magic fish who has decided that she wants to live with Sōsuke and the other humans. Unfortunately, Ponyo's decision to give up her underwater life creates a crack in an ancient magic spell, and places the world in danger. Together, Sōsuke and Ponyo must set things right.
Also, I am excited to announce that during the showing, the Anime Society will be selling off its tape collection! As most of you know, we have an extensive tape library of anime but lately it's become more trouble than it's worth so we are selling it off (and, if one exec member has her way, using the money to finance a dance party). Although I can't guarantee the quality of every tape, each one will only cost $1 and we have everything from Weiss Kreuz to Record of Lodoss War to Card Captor Sakura. So, come one, come all!
I believe that's all the announcements for now. If you have any questions, feel free to email the society. And, as always, we hope to see you all there on Friday!

Last Showing of the Semester!
Hey everyone, it's that time again! Exams are next week (oh no!) and the summer is starting to clue up. That means that THIS FRIDAY, August 7th, at 7:30, we're having our last showing!
WE'LL BE IN ED-1014, IN THE BASEMENT OF THE EDUCATION BUILDING. AND THE T-SHIRTS ARE FINALLY HERE!!!!! For more details, please see the end of the e-mail.
We're showing (with a 14+ rating):
Valkryia Chronicles
When Imperial forces attack the small border town of Bruhl, Welkin Gunther, son of late General Belgen Gunther, is forced to fight for his life alongside Town Watch captain Alicia Melchiott. Along with Welkin's adopted sister Isara, the three escape to Gallia's capitol and subsequently join the country's militia forces. As members of the newly-formed Squad 7, they must work to repel the invading Imperial forces and discover the true purpose of the invasion itself.
and Tears to Tiara
Set in a fictitious land during a medieval-like era of magic and fantasy, Tears to Tiara unfolds with the Divine Empire’s rise to power as it conquers and rules lands far and wide. On the island of Erin, still ruled by the Ancient Kingdom, the Goidelic people are attempting to sacrifice priestess Riannon to revive protagonist and demon king Arawn to lead the resistance against the Empire. Although the ritual fails and Riannon survives, the seal imprisoning the demon king is broken and Arawn is resurrected. Armed with mysterious and devastating powers and a human’s demeanour, Arawn joins Riannon, her brother and battalion commander, Arthur, as well as their team of fighters, in the epic struggle against the Divine Empire.
Regarding T-Shirts: If you pre-paid for your shirts, we have your order form, and you can just pick up your shirt. If we don't remember who you are, a piece of ID would be good. ^_^ If you did not order a shirt, we have a limited number available for purchase, in various sizes. These shirts are being sold for $15 each, on a first-come-first-served basis (contact via e-mail is recommended if you can't be there on Friday). Team Diabetes Canada Fundraiser
Hello everyone!
Veni Vedi Vici '09 is a fundraiser being held for Team Diabetes this Saturday, organized by one of the community's gamers. The Mount Pearl Soccer Association Clubhouse has been rented out, and is going to be set up with tables and chairs for the afternoon of February 7th, starting at noon. Admission is $5, and food will be avaliable for purchase, all profits going to Team Diabetes Canada. Supposedly there will also be door prizes.
The theory is that you bring your own games or whatever, and hang out for the afternoon. Hopefully we can show our support for this - grab your boardgames, PHBs, minis, cards, dice, paints (don't get it on the floor. end of story), whatever, and come along! Personally, I'll be there! Any questions can be directed to Colin, the organiser, at 728-1452 or cwelland@canada.com, or you can contact us - we'll answer if we can, and find out the answer if we can't!

A new semester of anime begins!
Hello everyone and welcome to a new semester of anime! For those who don't know, I'm the new Anime Society Secretary and I'll be doing the emails from now on.
We're back in our normal room this semester (A-1046). Our first showing is next Friday, Jan 16. As per our usual, it will be a Movie Night and Meet and Greet. The showing will begin at 7:30 and we'll announce our plans for the semester afterwards.
We'll be showing Bleach 2: The DiamondDust Rebellion (note that this is not the movie shown in theatres last semester)
A valuable artifact known as "King's Seal" is stolen by a mysterious group of people during transport in Soul Society. Hitsugaya Toushiro, the 10th division captain of Gotei 13, who is assigned to transport the seal fights the leader of the group and shortly after goes missing. After the incident, Seireitei declares Hitsugaya a traitor and orders the capture and execution of Hitsugaya. Kurosaki Ichigo refuses to believe this, and along with Matsumoto Rangiku, Kuchiki Rukia and Abarai Renji swear to uncover the real mastermind of the stolen seal, find Hitsugaya and clear his name. Meanwhile, a rogue Hitsugaya searches for the perpetrators and uncovers a dark secret regarding a long dead shinigami.
Also, this semester we've decided to try something new and we're having several Theme Nights, rather than just our normal showings. These are as follows:
Jan 23-American Anime Night
Feb 6-Valentine's Day/Cheesy Romance Night
March 6 - Live Action Anime Night (stop adjusting your monitor, you read it right the first time)
This is new this semester and we're hoping everyone enjoys it! Feel free to give us some feedback (especially positive. We love having our egos stroked).
Hope to see everyone next Friday!
~ Rowena, Anime Society Secretary
